Lae'zel is the first companion that you meet in Baldur's Gate 3. Like you, she's trapped on the Mindflayer ship and is looking for a way to escape. There are many interesting ways you can take your Githyanki companion's story throughout the course of the game. You can keep her on the path toward ascending to Vlaakith or steer her toward betraying the Lich Queen in favor of liberating her people.

If you're looking for the Githyanki creche in Baldur's Gate 3, here's where to find and enter it.

What happens to Lae'zel depends on what you decide to do with Orpheus before the epic climax in Act 3. Continue reading to learn about all the possible outcomes.

As you can likely guess, this article contains spoilers.

Kill Lae'zel

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Possible Ending For Lae'zel (4)

As you explore the beach you crash on at the beginning of the game, you'll find Lae'zel in a cage, trapped by two Tieflings. You can persuade the Tieflings to leave, freeing you to shoot Lae'zel down once they're out of sight.

You can also trick the Tieflings into shooting Lae'zel down themselves. If you go this route, you'll have the chance to side with Lae'zel and kill the two Tieflings or side with the Tieflings and kill Lae'zel. Obviously, if you choose the latter, you won't be able to recruit Lae'zel, and her story ends there.

If you decide not to do Lae'zel's main quest to find the creche, she will leave unless you can persuade her to stay with you. If you do the creche and refuse Vlaakith's order to enter the mysterious artifact, Lae'zel will turn on you if her approval isn't high enough. This will force you to fight and kill her.

Orpheus Becomes A Mindflayer

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Possible Ending For Lae'zel (5)

In Act 3, you discover that to defeat the Netherbrain, someone will have to become a Mindflayer, or you'll have to give the Netherstones to the Emperor. If you free Orpheus, he'll offer to make the sacrifice. If you let him, he'll request that Lae'zel take his dragons and fly to the Astral Plane in order to liberate the Githyanki people from Vlaakith in his stead.

If you encourage her to leave, she'll agree to his final wishes before you end his suffering as a Mindflayer with a knife to the chest. You can persuade Lae'zel to stay with you in Faerun with a DC 12 persuasion check.

If Lae'zel is still loyal to Vlakkith at the end of the game, she will elect to kill the traitor Prince Orpheus on her own. Her story will end with her calling out to Vlakkith before getting on a dragon and flying off into the Astral Plane to join her queen. In both these endings, you can join Lae'zel, but you must be a Githyanki to do so.

You Become A Mindflayer

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Possible Ending For Lae'zel (6)

If you decide to make the ultimate sacrifice and become a Mindflayer (or let Karlach do it), Prince Orpheus will be free to lead his people against Vlaakith, something he is more than a little grateful for.

After defeating the Netherbrain, Orpheus will ask Lae'zel to join him in liberating the Githyanki. She will happily agree and get on the back of his red dragon. While you can attempt to persuade Lae'zel to stay, she will refuse as she can't align herself with a Mindflayer. This isn't the most ideal ending if you're romancing your Githyanki companion.

Side With The Emperor And Kill Orpheus

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Possible Ending For Lae'zel (7)

As stated above, you don't need Orpehus to help you control the Netherbrain. You can turn into a Mindflayer yourself or give the Netherstones to the Emperor. If you choose the latter and side with the Emperor, he will devour Orpheus's brain, killing him.

This ending isn't the best for Lae'zel as it will make her an outcast among her people. She will accuse you of turning your back on the Githyanki, and while she will stick with you to see things through to the end, she will leave once the job is done.

FAQs

How to get lae zel good ending in BG3? ›

If you free Orpheus, he'll offer to make the sacrifice. If you let him, he'll request that Lae'zel take his dragons and fly to the Astral Plane in order to liberate the Githyanki people from Vlaakith in his stead.

Should lae zel side with orpheus or vlaakith? ›

You can obey Vlaakith or choose to side with Orpheus, and your decision will change Lae'zel's fate at the end of the game. Generally speaking, you shouldn't force Lae'zel to obey Vlaakith. If she goes against Vlaakith, Lae'zel leaves for the Astral Plane at the end of the game and leads a rebellion to save her people.

How to get Lae Zel if you missed her? ›

If you completely ignore Lae'zel or persuade the Tieflings to leave but don't free her, she will eventually escape by herself and make her way to the Gith'yanki patrol near the Mountain Pass. Here she will have another chance to join you if you're able to negotiate with the Gith.

Can you keep lae zel if you side with the emperor? ›

There's a high DC persuasion roll to keep Lae'zel (and prevent Kith'rak Voss from attacking) while siding with the Emperor. So, it's possible. It does obviously affect her ending though. Pretty sure you need high approval with her to simplify this considerably.

Who is the most romanced character in Baldur's Gate 3? ›

But let's talk romance: while Baldur's Gate 3 has a number of intriguing romance paths, Shadowheart's is easily the most popular, with 51.3% players completing her romance arc (which you can find a walkthrough of here). It turns out she really is God's favorite princess and the most interesting girl in the world.

Does Lae Zel leave if you don't free Orpheus? ›

If you choose to transform, Lae'zel will likely return with Orpheus to free her people from Vlaakith. If you allow the Emperor to kill and assimilate Orpheus, Lae'zel will likely abandon the party unless you succeed in a very difficult check.

What happens if you don't kneel to Vlaakith? ›

You should enter the artifact because even if you do, you still do not have to do what Vlaakith or anyone else says, and you will get to meet your Guardian face-to-face. If you do not obey Vlaakith, she will kill your entire party, and you must restart. You must at least pretend to go along with the orders.

Should you let lae zel in the machine? ›

The reason why players shouldn't do this is that using the Zaith'isk on anyone will actually inflict a permanent debuff on them, and it's going to be especially brutal to Lae'zel. Once Lae'zel sits on the Zaith'isk, the machine will start violently "purifying" her of the tadpole.

Is Vlaakith a god? ›

For a millennia old lich, even one as powerful as Vlaakith, that aging could destroy her body without proper preparations in advance. Also, as powerful as she is, she is not a goddess. She's not a god. She's a lich with dreams of godhood absorbing the souls of her followers trying to propel herself there.

Is there a way to save lae zel? ›

If fans choose to kill Lae'Zel, the Tieflings will release her from the cage, after which the fight will begin. At this point, gamers will have a second chance to save this Githyanki fighter. However, if they choose to side with the Tieflings, players will kill Lae'Zel with a few hits.

How to trigger lae zel romance? ›

Make your way through the Nautiloid until you trigger a cutscene in which Lae'zel appears, ready to cut you to ribbons. Once she realizes you both share the same breed of Illithid parasite, Lae'zel will suggest you travel together. Take her up on this offer and she will officially join your party.

What does Laezel approve of? ›

She generally approves of assertive and aggressive behavior, standing up to oppressors, and respecting strength. Disapproval often arises from showing weakness, compromising or avoiding conflict, or making decisions she perceives as cowardly or dishonorable.

Can I save Orpheus and the Emperor? ›

Freeing Orpheus in Baldur's Gate 3 can result in the party becoming mind flayers, leading to a gloomy ending. Siding with the Emperor means losing a character and facing a harder Netherbrain fight. The choice in BG3 is a sacrifice, with no real winner, and all options mean losing something in return.

What happens if I free Orpheus? ›

At the start of Act 3, the Emperor will tell players that keeping Orpheus contained is the only thing preventing the party from turning into Illithids. Naturally, if Orpheus is freed, one or all the members of the party may be doomed to become Mind Flayers.

Is the Emperor evil in BG3? ›

He leans more toward evil than neutral. He's willing to kill his best friend and literally enslave the world using the Nether Brain. He even joins the Nether Brain if you don't side with him. He has no soul, as all illithids don't, and it's proven by his actions when you even slightly act against him.

How to not lose lae zel BG3? ›

Supporting Lae'zel in her attempt to use this device to remove the tadpole results in the player-created character gaining a lot of approval, which can help them avoid losing Lae'zel as a companion during this area of the campaign.

How to make lae zel stay? ›

Afterwards, Lae'zel will take you to watch the sunrise. You can select any of the options for the first prompt, then select the following: "I've been waiting so long to hear those words. I will stay with you, come what may"

How do you get the best ending in BG3? ›

To get the good ending (or the standard story ending), you'll need to defeat the Netherbrain in the final battle of Act Three then command it to destroy itself, along with all the Ilithid Tadpoles.
