Campfire Potatoes on Grill Recipe
If you’re grilling out,you’ll want an easy side that’s very budget friendly. One of our favorite things to make is potatoes when we’re grilling. We typically always have a bag of potatoes and onions at our home, so it’s the perfect thing to grab. Grilling happens at our house when the weather is nice and since you can’t always count on that, it’s typically a last minute decision.
When I was younger, I remember sitting around a campfire the last night at 4-H camp, and making our dinner over an open fire. We would put raw hamburger (don’t try this at home!), potatoes and onion in foil and throw it into the hot coals to cook. It was by far my favorite dinner of the entire week. It had the smokey flavor from the fire. I just loved that!
Now that I’m a little older, I wanted to have something that I could make as a side to the raw hamburgers cooking inside the hot grill. I wanted that fire cooked taste. Now, these are a little more adult with their parsley, but I think they’re delicious all the same. And while, I don’t sing around the grill as I make them, these campfire potatoes are a keeper.
To make these potatoes you will need:
9 potatoes, sliced
2 onions, sliced
6 TB butter
2/3 cheddar cheese
4 tsp dried parsley
2 TB Worcestershire
Layer the potatoes into a small metal pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil. You can also use foil, but I find it’s easier to use the disposable pans. And of course you can just throwthe potatoesin there. I tend to layer them nicely since I think they cook more evenly, but sometimes when I’m in a rush I just throw them in the pan.
Put pats of butter onto the top of the potatoes.
Mix the cheddar cheese, parsley and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. You can also add a little salt and pepper. But I honestly think theWorcestershire has enough salt in it.
Sprinkle the cheese mixture onto the top of the potatoes and cover with foil. Make sure you put the foil on tightly. Place on the grill and cook for 35 – 40 minutes or until the potatoes are fully cooked. You’ll want to cook them on low on the grill when it’s temperature is around 350 to 400 degrees. If the grill is too hot, it will burn the potatoes before they’re fully cooked.

Ingredients
- 9 medium potatoes sliced
- 2 medium onions sliced
- 6 Tablespoon butter
- 2/3 cup cheddar cheese
- 4 teaspoon dried parsley
- 2 Tablespoon Worcestershire
Instructions
Slice the potatoes and the onion. Layer in a greased metal pan (or in foil). Top with pats of butter.
Mix cheddar cheese, parsley, and Worcestershire sauce. Top the potato layers. Cover tightly with foil.
Place on grill set to low (or 350 – 400 degrees Fahrenheit). Grill for 35 to 40 minutes.
