Season 6 of DMZ, Modern Warfare II and Warzone has arrived. The new iteration of Call of Duty‘s popular battle royale has proven to be somewhat divisive due to controversial changes made to the game’s mechanics. This has led many players (myself included) to try the new looter-shooter DMZ mode – and it has become favourite of mine. Naturally, I was eager to know what the DMZ meta is. With the launch of Season 6 and The Haunting, I spent significant time in both Warzone and DMZ to identify my top meta picks for Season 6.
What is DMZ?
In case you are trying DMZ for the first time, let’s briefly go over what it is all about.
DMZ combines many features of classic Warzone with mechanics popularised by Escape from Tarkov.
In DMZ, players drop into Al Mazrah, Ashika Island, Vondel or Building 21 with the aim of acquiring as much valuable loot and weaponry as possible before safely extracting. DMZ has a heavier emphasis on PvE combat than Warzone, with players squaring off against battalions of heavily armed AI soldiers.
Progression carries over between games with the goal being to set yourself up with the gear required to complete missions and take on squads of other players.
Once you have dropped into one of the three maps, completed missions, and battled other players, you need to extract within the time limit. If you get out alive, you keep all the gear you collected and can build up a stash of contraband weapons.
While you can choose to use contraband weapons in DMZ, the game also offers players the option of using a custom “insured” weapon. Insured guns allow you to make use of Warzone‘s extensive gunsmith to create a weapon that cannot be lost (unlike regular contraband) should you fail to extract.
So, let’s go over my picks for the best loadout and DMZ meta in Season 6 for November 2023…
DMZ Meta Weapons
Just like classic Warzone, DMZ comes down to having the edge over your opponents. Even the slightest advantage can make all the difference. And that is where metas (most effective tactics available) come in.
Meta weapons place you in the most advantageous position for any gunfight. Consequently, it is essential that any players who are serious about extracting in DMZ know about and use the best guns available to them.
Thankfully, weapons in Warzone 2.0 and DMZ are more effectively balanced than they were in the original Warzone. This means there are plenty of options available when comes to picking the perfect custom insured weapon to suit any play-style.

In classic Warzone, shotguns are an unpopular choice. Their lack of range can be a huge hinderance. However, I think a shotgun really comes into its own against the large numbers of heavily armoured AI enemies in DMZ.

DMZ Meta Equipment
While most guns need to be purchased or procured to be used in DMZ, players have a free choice of equipment to take with them on deployments.
With that being said, you need to be sure that you are taking the equipment that best compliments the unique requirements of DMZ.
Best Tactical Equipment DMZ
The best tactical equipment in DMZ is Smoke Grenades.
In DMZ, AI enemies regularly use Smoke Grenades to disguise their movements. However, the advantage of Smoke Grenades isn’t limited to enemies – they are also an invaluable bit of kit that you can use in DMZ.
Some meta loadouts may recommend the SZ Holotherm optic. This is because it allows you to see through the smoke.
Whether you are running the holo-thermal sight or not, Smoke Grenades are still great for catching a break from enemy fire.
Best Lethal Equipment DMZ
The best lethal equipment in DMZ is Semtex or Thermite.
Semtex is perfect for dealing with clusters of enemy soldiers.
Thermite is massively effective against AI vehicles like armoured trucks and helicopters, and for holding off aggressive enemy players.
Best Field Upgrade DMZ
The best field upgrade in DMZ is Anti-Armor Rounds.
DMZ is full of heavily armoured AI enemies. However, you will also come up against numerous squads of other players. Anti-Armor Rounds are great for dealing with both types of foe and are undoubtedly the best field upgrade in DMZ.
