Golf legend Jack Nicklaus emerges victorious in a $50 million defamation lawsuit against former business partners, Howard Milstein and Andrew O'Brien. A jury in Palm Beach County ruled that the Nicklaus Companies had tarnished Nicklaus' reputation, exposing him to ridicule and public contempt. Nicklaus, a 18-time major champion, spent his life as a humanitarian and a role model, and the jury acknowledged his exceptional character. The lawsuit alleged that Milstein, O'Brien, and others spread false stories about Nicklaus' involvement in a $750 million deal with the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf League, as well as his mental health. Defense attorneys argued that the case was a business dispute and that no harm was done to Nicklaus' reputation. This victory allows Nicklaus to continue using his name and image for his golf course design business, while Nicklaus Companies retains the rights to sell merchandise. However, a previous lawsuit in New York dismissed Nicklaus Companies' attempt to prevent Nicklaus from promoting his golf course design business using his name and image.
