In a heartfelt revelation, Teddi Mellencamp updates fans on her health journey, stating, ‘I was in such shock.’
Keeping her audience informed, Teddi Mellencamp recently shared significant developments regarding her health on her podcast, Two T's in a Pod. During her candid conversation with fellow Real Housewives personality Dolores Catania, Mellencamp expressed that despite receiving encouraging news from her medical team, she must maintain her treatment regimen. The journey began painfully in 2022 when she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
At 44 years old, Mellencamp announced with relief that her stage 4 cancer is now "gone," a testament to her resilience amidst an ongoing struggle that she has faced bravely. "Just to give a little life update to you guys, I had my immunotherapy yesterday and I did my scans and at this point there is no detectable cancer," she exclaimed during the podcast episode that aired on October 3rd.
Catania's overjoyed reaction spoke volumes about their friendship: "Oh, I’m so happy!" she replied, humorously adding, "How am I supposed to carry on after this? Forget the episode ... I wish I could hug you. I love you. Thank you for sharing this; it took my breath away."
Reflecting on her emotions upon hearing the news, Mellencamp confessed, "When they told me, I was in such shock. I felt numb.” Despite this positive shift, she reminded her followers that her battle is far from over, explaining, "I'm still going to have days when I'm feeling sick because I am still undergoing immunotherapy; it’s a fight that continues."
She shared that her treatment plan requires her to continue immunotherapy for a full year before her situation can be re-evaluated. "I am not yet considered in remission or anything like that," she clarified. "The way it was explained to me is that after one year, you reassess at two years, and finally at three years, you can be considered for remission. So, the news I received was monumental."
Mellencamp has previously disclosed that doctors estimated her chances of survival at a precarious "50/50." This journey began in 2022 with the diagnosis of stage 2 melanoma, known to be the most aggressive type of skin cancer. She underwent a staggering 17 surgeries to combat the disease, only for it to escalate dramatically in April 2025 when doctors found that the cancer had spread to her brain and lungs. This led her to endure a rigorous treatment protocol involving immunotherapy, radiation, and surgery for the tumors.
Catania enthusiastically acknowledged her friend's tenacity: "You did it, girl! You fought harder than anyone I know. This is such incredible news, and I couldn't be happier for you."
Curious about how her children perceive her health struggles, Catania inquired if they were aware of her situation. Mellencamp shared that only her eldest child, Slate, truly comprehends the gravity of her diagnosis. She noted how she missed one of her daughter’s equestrian competitions due to her health, emphasizing, "Just because the cancer is gone doesn’t mean I am out of the woods. I am still in treatment, and I have a compromised immune system; I must exercise caution."
Mellencamp reassured fans that her doctors have reported steady progress, sharing, "All the tumors continued to shrink, so that’s a positive sign."
With a lighthearted tone, she remarked, "It's a good day, but do we really have to recap Real Housewives of Orange County?" her laughter buoying the moment. Responding playfully, Catania teased her friend, "Just, f---ing let’s call it a day right now!"
For those keen on following true stories of triumph, Mellencamp's journey serves as compelling evidence of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of daunting challenges.
